As of 2013 census, the Bratunac municipality has a population of 20,340 inhabitants, while the town of Bratunac has 8,359 inhabitants. Despite the excellent combination of hilly and lowland areas, intersected by several small tributaries of the Drina and Jadar rivers, which is an ideal basis for the development of hunting, fishing, river and rural tourism in this economically underdeveloped municipality, lack of adequate accommodation is a major obstacle to exploiting these rich tourist potentials.

Hotel Fontana has been in the phase of reconstruction and renovation of rooms since 2011, and as things stand now, it will not happen soon due to a lack of financial resources. Namely, the new owners of the Fontana Hotel have not yet been granted a loan to continue the work. As a result of all this, Motel Jasen is the only active accommodation facility in Bratunac. An alternative to this underdeveloped tourist offer are accommodation facilities on the opposite side of the Drina River in Ljubovija (Serbia) or in Srebrenica, ten kilometers away.
